I almost failed FW2 due to incompatabikity with the FW preceptor. I worked my butt off to try and prove myself. She passed me with a C. The who experience was horrible. I did it at a SNF that was primarily white. I am a blk male and encountered racism and sexism which made doing my job almost impossible. My FW instructor (who was a wht female btw), either truly didn't understand my situation or she was prejudiced and didn't care about my struggle. I think it was both.

It's worth noting that in the next 10-20 years, the "boomer" generation will inevitably need assisted living services. This generation is almost twice the size of the current assisted living population, with an estimated 70 million people. That means twice the number of individuals will require medical support and accommodation in assisted living facilities in just one generation alone. It is unclear how the big picture affects Occupational Therapy Assistants, as some insurance companies are reducing referrals and funding. For example, Medicaid has reduced payment for physician services under the fee schedule. But the need is definitely there!

If you want free workers you can always be a feeder farm for cota students doing clinicals too. I did a rotation at a sensory gym where there was one cota and 2 speech therapists on staff. Everyone else was an OT or Cota student. Im talking like 7 or 8 students doing all the treatments. The owner would just sign all the students evals and tens lol, pretty much never there and raking in bank off 75% free labor.
